    BIO

Dasha Vymetalova is a visual artist and cultural entrepreneur originally from the Czech Republic, now based in Gaspésie since 2006. She is the founder of Da Média (9537-4674 Québec inc.), a production company known for its sensitive and immersive approach to documentary filmmaking, professional rigor, and deep commitment to stories rooted in regions. Her first encounter with the art of the camera came at the age of ten, in Czech Republic, when her father introduced her to black-and-white analog photography. Together, they developed film in a makeshift darkroom, revealing images in silence under red light. This formative experience sparked a lasting fascination with lenses, optics, and precision instruments—from cameras to theodolites—which continues to inform her cinematic practice today. Trained in audiovisual production in Prague, Dasha has pursued ongoing professional development through masterclasses with Michel La Veaux, Jacques Deschamps, and Yves Bélanger, as well as customized training at INIS in television production. In 2018, she founded Da Média to bring her artistic vision to life and amplify local voices. In March 2025, she incorporated the company to expand into fiction and international co-productions, particularly with Czech partners. Her documentary work includes several award-winning series broadcast by TELUS MaCommunauté and few reportings for Télé-Québec, Radio-Canada, CHAU-TVA abd TV Prague. Notable titles include D’hier à demain – Nos églises, recipient of the Heritage Award from the MRC de La Côte-de-Gaspé and the Excellence Award from the Québec Religious Heritage Council; Femmes en mouvement, an intergenerational series exploring resilience and the evolving role of women; and Rêves en Or, which highlights inspiring retirement-age individuals pursuing lifelong aspirations. An active member of TACIC, Culture Gaspésie, Réalisatrices Équitables, and Paraloeil, Dasha is deeply engaged in the development of the regional audiovisual sector. She understands that producing in rural areas requires heightened versatility, constant adaptability, and close collaboration with local communities. These challenges fuel her creativity and reinforce her commitment to a cinema that is intimate, human, and grounded. Today, she is developing short fiction and the documentary cinema films while fostering artistic exchanges between Gaspésie and Central Europe. Her career reflects a rare balance between regional rootedness and international openness, technical precision and artistic sensitivity. Through her work, Dasha Vymetalova transforms human stories into powerful, poetic, and universal visual experiences.
